Fender Flare Install Steps

Learn how to prepare your area and how to install fender flare with these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Prepare the Area: Start by cleaning the surface with a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. Then apply an adhesion promoter along the radius one inch from the edge of the fender. Allow the adhesion promoter to fully dry.
  2. Install the Fender Flare: Beginning at the start of the radius, leave two extra inches of material. Apply the fender flare to the fender’s edge by pushing the trim into place. When the trim is on the fender, use a roller tool to make sure the trim is properly seated. To make high-volume installations go faster, use a pneumatic hammer.
  3. Remove the Excess Trim: With a straight-edge clipper, cut off the excess flare at the start of the radius. When cutting, feel for the gap between the aluminum or steel clips embedded in the plastic to avoid crushing the trim. Only when the excess flare is trimmed off should you start to remove the tape liner.
  4. Remove Half the Excess Liner: Start by pulling off the liner only six inches at a time. From under the flap, apply firm pressure against the part and the fender that affixes the tape to the panel. Be careful not to dislodge the trim during this process.
  5. Remove Remaining Excess Liner: Before reaching the end of the radius, stop pulling the tape liner and trim off the excess fender flare. After the trim is cut to your desired finish, carefully remove the last part of the tape liner and firmly apply pressure against the trim and the fender.
Apply Firm Pressure: With the full length of tape now applied, take one final pass applying pressure along the entire length of the trim and the fender. Manipulate any bumps in the flare by hand until you achieve the shape you desire.
  6. Let the Application Cure: Allow 72 hours for full tape adhesion.
